The Penguins have made the worst case scenario official. Jordan Staal will undergo surgery tomorrow to repair his fractured hand. The injury occurred when he got hit by a puck at practice today. He is expected to miss up to 6 more weeks. This was announced by Ray Shero and posted to the Penguins official website.
Well, best wishes go out to Staal. In all the interviews I have seen, he was beaming and smiling when the thought of him returning was mentioned. This is a huge setback for him and the team.
Comrie, Letestu, Asham, and others will need to step it up once more. I imagine the Pens will also need to bring up a player as well. Another question to look at, do you possibly consider putting Malkin back at center until Staal can return?
