Penguins Ultimate Home Game

Just another reason the Penguins were voted most fan friendly hockey team in the NHL by ESPN the magazine. Tonight the Penguins will host "The Ultimate Home Game". The Penguins face the Columbus Blue Jackets at the Consol but there will be one twist...They will not make a dime with ticket prices. ALL tickets have been donoted by the Pens to various groups and charities, most dealing with children. They are forgoing roughly $1,000,000 in gate prices. In todays day and age of sports, this blows my mind. The Pens just seem to do everything right. I could never imagine that the other sports teams in this city would attempt such a thing.

Among the recipients of tickets are 8000 college and trade school students. Their will also be a job fair set up inside the arena. The other 10000 tickets are going to area youth hockey leagues, a charity that gives event tickets to underprivileged kids and members of the team’s Kids Club.

The fact that the Penguins management came up with this idea and the owners signed off on it are prime examples of how well run and strong this organization is. They connect with fans. They connect with the community. They do this in ways no other professional sport in this town does. The Steelers dont need to and they know it. They dont try one bit to connect with fans. The Pirates, well, they have bobbleheads and fireworks. The Pens take everything a step further. Whether its sending players out to hand deliver pizza's to fans in ticket lines, having the big screen outside during playoffs, having players personally deliver season tickets, or the Ultimate Home Game, the Pens just seem to get it right. Everytime
